THE BEGINNING PROCESS

As I was given my children, the monocot seeds and dicot seeds, I was nervous. I had thoughts as to whether they would enjoy their new home and their new mom, me. As I got their rooms ready, the clear 1-liter bottles that were filled with soil, I began to become attached, and I knew this was just the beginning!

DICOT SEED:

EMBRYO: The embryo for the dicot seed consists of a small part of the seed that will develop into a new plant.
COTYLEDON and ENDOSPERM: The two cotyledon are considered the endosperm in the dicot seed. These organelles help nurture the growth of the seedling, and will soon disappear as time goes on.

MONOCOT SEED:

EMBRYO: The cotyledon surrounds the embryo to protect it, and give the embryo nutrients through it.
COTYLEDON: Unlike the dicot seed, the monocot seed only has one cotyledon. This cotyledon is also known as the ENDOSPERM. Once again, it provides food for the growing plant.
